Precinct Election Officials

NEEDED:

  • APPROXIMATELY 300 PEOPLE WILLING TO BE PEOs (PRECINCT ELECTION OFFICIALS)
  • 1 TO 4 DAYS A YEAR
  • PRIMARY ELECTIONS – MARCH (PRESIDENTIAL) OR MAY
  • GENERAL ELECTIONS – NOVEMBER
  • SPECIAL ELECTIONS – FEBRUARY OR AUGUST

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MUST BE A REGISTERED VOTER IN HANCOCK COUNTY
  • EACH PRECINCT MUST HAVE 2 DEMOCRATIC AND 2 REPUBLICAN PEOs. A PERSON NOT AFFILIATED WITH A POLITICAL PARTY MAY SERVE IN EITHER A DEMOCRATIC OR A REPUBLICAN PEO POSITION.
  • BE ABLE TO WORK FROM 5:30AM TO APPROXIMATELY 8:00PM

PAY:

  • $140.00 FOR VLMs (VOTING LOCATION MANAGERS)
  • $130.00 FOR PEOs
  • $5.00 FOR MILEAGE (COUNTY TO CITY OR CITY TO COUNTY)

DUTIES:

MONDAY EVENING MEETING

  • HOLD ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING AT POLLING LOCATION FROM 7:00PM – 8:00PM

ELECTION DAY

  • ARRIVE BY 5:30 AM
  • START UP DRES AND SET OUT SUPPLIES
  • SIGN IN VOTERS
  • WRITE NAME AND ADDRESS OF VOTER IN POLL BOOK
  • CHECK OFF EACH VOTER IN POLLING LIST
  • PASS OUT “I VOTED” STICKERS
  • SHUTDOWN DRES AT THE END OF THE DAY

OUR STAFF WILL BE IN THE OFFICE TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS THAT MIGHT ARISE. THE ABOVE DUTIES WILL BE DIVIDED AMONG THE POLL WORKERS. THE VLMs WILL PICK UP SUPPLIES ON THE MONDAY BEFORE THE ELECTION (8:30AM – 4:30PM) AND RETURN THEM TO OUR OFFICE ON ELECTION NIGHT.

DETAILS:

HANCOCK COUNTY HAS 60 PRECINCTS IN 28 LOCATIONS THAT ARE STAFFED EACH ELECTION DAY WITH VOTING HOURS FROM 6:30AM TO 7:30PM EACH PRECINCT HAS THREE PEOs AND ONE VLM (TWO REPUBLICANS AND TWO DEMOCRATS) WITH SOME LARGER PRECINCTS WITH AN ELECTIONS ASSISTANT FOR A TOTAL OF FIVE WORKERS.

TRAINING:

TRAINING CLASSES FOR NEW WORKERS ARE SCHEDULED BEFORE MOST ELECTIONS. YOU WILL BE PAID $8.50 FOR THE CLASS.

WHEN:

ELECTIONS ARE HELD THE TUESDAY AFTER THE FIRST MONDAY IN MAY AND NOVEMBER WITH A POSSIBILITY OF SPECIAL ELECTIONS IN FEBRUARY AND AUGUST. DURING PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION YEARS, THE MAY PRIMARY IS MOVED TO MARCH.

A Majority Affirmative Vote Is Necessary For Passage

An additional tax for the benefit of the Findlay City School District for the purpose of current operating expenses,
at a rate not exceeding 5.9 mills for each one dollar of valuation, which amounts to $0.59 for each one hundred
dollars of valuation, for 5 years, commencing in 2020, first due in calendar year 2021.
